The test result is issued as value of probability and is based on statistical population data. The paternity is considered to be practically proved if the probability exceeds the value of 99.9%. We examine the sample with a method that is acknowledged worldwide (16 or more DNA-markers). Depending on the genotype (allele) on one locus (genetic marker) that the father / mother / child has, with a statistic calculation method the probability for paternity is determined (usually > 99.9%) or the paternity is excluded, 0%. For the case of father/child (case of deficiency) the value of probability is slightly smaller as in a test of mother/father/child. The evaluation of the case of deficiency can be more complicated as for the trio mother/father/child; in some few cases a statement is only possible if the mother is also included into the examination. The persons may not have eaten, drunk or smoked anything one to two hours before the smear is taken. Cleansing the buccal cavity with some water may help to improve the quality of the sample.

Please use one swab per person. Open the pouches by pulling the wrapper. Take off one of the swabs and leave the other one inside as a reserve. Take the sample from the mucous membrane of the mouth by rubbing the cotton-swab 15-20 secondes several times back and forth (hard!) on each inner side of your cheek (inside the mouth).

After taking the sample, let the swab dry for at least four hours in the air (or longer, e.g. over night) and then place it back into the return pouch (which is the original pouch which you opened) for the transport to our laboratory. Place the swab into a glass, the cotton-wool-tip facing up and let them dry on air. Utilizable results can only be achieved with a dried cotton-wool tip. After opening, the cotton-wool-tip should only get in touch with the mucous membrane of the mouth of the person to be tested. DNA of another person can complicate the examination. Please put both swabs back to the original pouch after the drying period. Then send it to our laboratory.

On the return pouch, please mark the role of the person, and on the contract:

  • Gender of the child (f: female / m: male).
  • Names of the test persons.
